From Russia With Love

In my piece Life- A Musical Journey, I had listed Russia as a miss. Well, it didn't take long to correct that! Akhila and I decided early this month that we just have to fill in this blank in our travels. So we took a 9 day trip to Moscow and St Petersburg. And how rewarding the trip was! It exceeded all our expectations. I suppose with its communist past, I had always thought it to be a dull place. Although so many of my naval friends have spent a long time there, nobody really told us to go there for sightseeing. So with all that, it is not surprising that the visit exceeded all our expectations. Its culture and history are well-known but we were really taken in by its colourful architecture, beauty and vastness. Language does pose a problem but we found the people to be sweet and helpful and willing to walk the extra mile to assist and guide. The restorations in St Petersburg after the Nazi damage are amazing and unbelievable. So all in all, a memorable trip.
